Acupuncture for High Cholesterol

Acupuncture for High Cholesterol

Acupuncture & Chinese Medical has developed successful acupuncture treatment protocols, discovering and using specific Chinese acupuncture points, to lower high cholesterol.
The cholesterol, is a lipid (a type of fat), in a person’s blood originates from two major sources, about 20% of dietary intake and 80% of liver production. LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol is called “bad” cholesterol, because elevated levels of LDL cholesterol are associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease. Over time, LDL cholesterol plaque causes thickening of the artery walls and narrowing of the arteries, a process called atherosclerosis. HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol is called the “good cholesterol” because HDL cholesterol particles prevent atherosclerosis by extracting cholesterol from the artery walls and disposing of them through the liver. Thus, flower image low levels of LDL cholesterol and high levels of HDL cholesterol (low LDL/HDL ratios) are desirable. The liver monitors and balances the LDL and HDL cholesterol levels in the blood. After a meal, the liver removes cholesterol in blood circulation. In between meals, the liver manufactures and secretes cholesterol back into the blood circulation. Therefore if the liver is not functioning properly, it can lead to high cholesterol (high LDL/HDL ratios).

How does acupuncture work for High Cholesterol?

Acupuncture increases liver functions, improves microcirculation/circulation in the body, corrects the metabolic disorder of lipid and protein, and lowers the LDL/HDL ratio. Also prevents/ decreases the risk of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease

Course of treatment

There are 10-15 acupuncture sessions in one course of treatment. Treatment frequency depends on individual condition. Chinese herbs work synergistically with acupuncture.
