Acupuncture for Depression

Acupuncture for Depression

Acupuncture & Chinese Medical Center has helped numerous patients suffering Depression back to recovery.
Depression is a mood disorder characterized by both psychological and physical symptoms which are detrimental to one’s daily functions. Patients with depression often suffer from irregular sleeping cycle, anxiety, poor memory and complications such as chronic pain, fatigue, and arthritis. Many patients cannot tolerate the side effects of antidepressant medications; acupuncture offers an alternative safe management therapy.

How does acupuncture work for Depression?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized acupuncture as an effective treatment for depression. Acupuncture treats patients’ specific psychological and physical symptoms that are unique to the individual. Research has shown that acupuncture balance/improve cerebral dopamine and norepinephrine, which are neurotransmitters — chemicals produced in the brain and nervous system that facilitate the transfer of information between nerve cells–that are directly related to mood elevation, elevating wakefulness, helping to reduce depression.

Course of treatment

There are 10-15 acupuncture sessions in one course of treatment. Treatment frequency depends on individual condition. Chinese herbs work synergistically with acupuncture.
