Acupuncture for Bursitis

Acupuncture for Bursitis

A bursa is a small, fluid-filled sac that acts as a cushion between a bone and other moving parts, such as muscles, tendons, or skin. Bursitis occurs when a bursa becomes inflamed. People get bursitis by overusing a joint or by an injury. It usually occurs at the knee, elbow, shoulder or hip.

How does acupuncture work for Bursitis

Placing and manipulating the acupuncture needles causes an increase in local blood flow and along with it, an increase in nutrients and immune cells. These are the ingredients for healing. Such speed up healing and “washout” inflammation, reducing or get rid of swelling and pain. Acupuncture simultaneously treats the underlying disease.

Course of Treatment

Some cases take just a few sessions. Chronic and complex cases may need 10-15 sessions or more, depending on the individual condition. Chinese herbs work synergistically with acupuncture.
